Three decades. One enduring partnership.
A shared journey built on loyalty, belief and a shared sense of belonging.
Intersport Elverys & Mayo GAA
For three decades, INTERSPORT Elverys has worn the green and red with pride. This is more than a title sponsorship; it is part of who we are. Our head office is in Mayo, our founders are from Mayo, and generations of our people, their families and communities have lived every high and every heartbreak alongside the team. Through unforgettable campaigns and painful near misses our commitment never wavered. We stayed because this partnership has always been personal, rooted in loyalty, belonging and a shared belief that Mayo’s day would come.
On Sunday 26 July 2026, Mayo Senior Men’s Team led by Manager and former player, Andy Moran made history winning the All-Ireland Men's Football Final for the first time in 75 years. For everyone across INTERSPORT Elverys who has carried this journey in their hearts, seeing Mayo lift the Sam Maguire was not only a historic sporting triumph, but one of the proudest and most emotional moments in our company’s history.
THE TIMELINE
1981–1998
Foundations
Long before INTERSPORT Elverys became Mayo GAA's title sponsor, it was a single sports shop in Castlebar. John and Jimmy Staunton opened Staunton Sports there in 1981, building a business rooted in the county from day one.
In 1995 the business joined the international INTERSPORT buying group and in 1998, the brothers acquired the historic Elverys name founded in Dublin in 1847, and by then Ireland's oldest sports retailer.
In the same year they made a decision that would come to define the company for decades: becoming title sponsor of Mayo GAA.
Two milestones, one year, one home county.
1998–2008
Building the Partnership
The early years were about presence: the Elverys name took centre stage on the jersey of Mayo's senior football, senior hurling and minor teams, worn throughout championship campaigns and the near misses alike. It was a modest, local commitment at the time from a business still evolving outside the county, but it was never treated as short-term, and it never lapsed.
2008–2017
Becoming Intersport Elverys
By the mid-2010s, the Staunton family's business had grown into Ireland's leading sports retailer, while remaining a member of the international INTERSPORT buying group it had joined back in 1995. In 2017, the company brought the two identities together for the first time, rebranding as INTERSPORT Elverys,.
2015–2020
Deepening the Commitment
The partnership grew beyond the jersey in these years. In 2019, INTERSPORT Elverys and Mayo GAA launched a free equipment scheme for primary schools across the county.
CEO Patrick Rowland pointed to schools as the foundation for future county players, part of the same commitment that had started with a first shirt deal two decades earlier.
In 2020, the two sides extended the sponsorship further reinforcing their commitment and shared belief.
Announcing the renewal, Rowland reflected on how far it had come. The company, he said, was continuing "an unbroken sequence of 22 years as their title sponsor." - Patrick Rowland, CEO, INTERSPORT Elverys, 2020
2020–2025
New Jerseys, New Chapters
The 2021 season brought a new home jersey, its pinstripes drawing on the design worn in 2006 and marking the 24th season the INTERSPORT Elverys name had featured on a Mayo shirt. Rowland called INTERSPORT Elverys "deeply embedded in GAA." - Patrick Rowland, CEO, INTERSPORT Elverys, 2021.
Three years later, the 2025/26 kit paid homage to the county's beloved 1996/97 jersey, reviving its sleeve chevrons for a new generation of players. Unveiling it, Philip Staunton, Director & Head Teamsports Buyer at INTERSPORT Elverys, said the brand was "excited to unveil the 2025 Mayo GAA home jersey." - Philip Staunton, Buying Director, INTERSPORT Elverys, 2024
2025–2026
Today: 75 Years On
In December 2025, INTERSPORT Elverys and Mayo GAA released a specially commissioned white jersey to mark 75 years since the county's only previous All-Ireland title, in 1951 - the same colour Mayo wore that day, and the first time since then the team had worn anything but green and red in a final.
First in 75 years
On 26 July 2026, wearing that jersey, Mayo beat Kerry 1-20 to 1-17 at Croke Park to become All-Ireland champions for the first time in 75 years, captain Jack Coyne lifting Sam Maguire.
Three decades after INTERSPORT Elverys became title sponsor, on a jersey the two organisations built together to mark this exact anniversary.
