 Introduction

As someone who took up running recently, I quickly realised just how much difference the right pair of shoes can make. A poorly fitting or unsupportive shoe can turn every kilometre into a struggle, while the right pair makes running feel effortless. Enter the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27, a shoe designed for comfort, support, and performance. From my first run in them, I was impressed by their lightweight feel, plush cushioning, and stylish design. Even with my flat feet, I felt well-supported thanks to the neutral gait design, which allowed my feet to move naturally without discomfort.

Testing Experience

I tested the Gel-Nimbus 27 on a mix of road surfaces and park trails, covering both short recovery runs and longer distances. One of the first things I noticed was how well-cushioned yet responsive they felt. Unlike previous shoes that caused discomfort and irritation around my ankles, the soft padded collar in the Nimbus 27 prevented blisters and skin irritation. The lightweight design helped each stride feel effortless, and even on longer runs, I never felt like my feet were working against the shoe.

Midsole

The standout feature of the Gel-Nimbus 27 is its FF BLAST PLUS ECO midsole foam, which delivers a luxurious underfoot feel while maintaining responsiveness. The PureGEL technology in the heel absorbs impact efficiently, making landings feel smooth and reducing strain on my joints. As someone with flat feet, I often struggle to find a shoe that offers enough support without feeling overly rigid, but the neutral gait of the Nimbus 27 provided the perfect balance.
Additionally, the FF BLAST PLUS ECO cushioning is made from approximately 24% bio-based materials, meaning you’re not only getting a soft and bouncy ride but also making a more environmentally conscious choice. Knowing that these shoes feel good underfoot while also reducing environmental impact adds an extra level of satisfaction to each run.

 Upper

One of my favourite aspects of this shoe is the breathable, engineered knit upper. It adapts well to the shape of my foot, offering a snug yet flexible fit. The soft fabric around the ankle is a game-changer—I often experience irritation or rubbing in new shoes, but the padded collar prevented any discomfort right from my first run. Another major plus is ASICS’ commitment to sustainability—at least 75% of the upper is made from recycled materials, helping to reduce waste without compromising on quality or performance.

Outsole

Durability and grip are essential in a running shoe, and the AHAR rubber outsole of the Gel-Nimbus 27 excels in both areas. Whether running on dry roads or slightly damp paths, I felt secure and stable with every step. The traction is reliable without feeling too rigid, allowing for a smooth and natural transition from heel to toe. The durability of the rubber also suggests these shoes will hold up well over many miles, making them a great long-term investment.

Verdict

Overall, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27 is a fantastic option for runners looking for a cushioned, supportive, and stylish shoe. The combination of plush cushioning, a breathable upper, and a durable outsole makes for an exceptionally smooth and comfortable running experience. As someone with flat feet, I felt well-supported thanks to the shoe’s neutral gait design, which allowed my feet to move naturally without discomfort.
